LIGHTBULB - TELEVISION - AIRPLANEINVENTIONS, CONTINUOUSLY CHANGING THE HUMAN TIME PERCEPTION
ELECTRICAL LIGHT- allowed us to change our sleeping patterns
- made us less dependent on sun/day-light
- allowed us to travel trough air for long distances
- made us less dependent from landscape
- allowed us to see other places and times than the current
- made possible to manipulate and edit time and see it different than originally recorded
The mode of presentation bears witness of this transformation of time perception.
The work is divided in four sections. The upper section presents two videos: on the left a close up video’s from a light-bulb filled with water and glitter. The right side shows video footage from a plane trip, a familiar image if there is one in these modern times. On the lower section two still images contrast with the upper videos: on the left a video playing the soundtrack of the work, while in the right the signature of the artist together with a picture of a light-bulb is presented; under the artist’s signature, The light-bulb is the same one used in the upper-left video. Partly revealing the scale and process of how the video was made.
With YouTube everything is always there. Ready to be watched in any moment and from any place. Simultaneously. By making video accessible to everyone immediately changes our perception of distance. We cannot be indifferent to the events taking place in Madrid’s Plaza del Sol, not when we see it live and direct. By combining the airplane, the light-bulb and the TV, SinQuenza reflects and shows us the personal experience of time.
